Last year? Pure transition szn in the SEC. Fresh faces. Unexpected starts. Plenty of “Wait, who?” under center. It was a damn musical chairs game with quarterbacks.

But now? The dust’s settled, the boys are seasoned, and this conference is STACKED with signal-callers who can absolutely spin it. Year 2 leaps incoming. Star transfers locked in. Hell, even the backups could win you a bowl game.

Let’s break down who’s really holding the remote this fall.

1. D.J. Lagway — Florida

The ceiling? Heisman. The floor? Hurt again.
Lagway might be the most explosive QB in the country if he stays healthy. When he torched LSU and Ole Miss last year, it looked like Florida found their next superstar.
He averaged 10.0 yards per attempt, second only to Dart, while barely getting real starter reps early on.
Now he’s the guy. If the wheels hold up, this kid could change the SEC. But health ain’t optional
 it’s everything.

2. Garrett Nussmeier — LSU

Burrow. Daniels. Nuss?
If you’ve watched LSU’s last two QB “Year 2” jumps, you know what’s possible. Nussmeier’s got the tools. Scouts are already whispering QB1 in the 2026 draft class.
The WR room’s solid. The O-line? Young. But if Nuss can take over games, LSU’s playoff path just got real.

3. LaNorris Sellers — South Carolina

Big body. Big arm. Big problem.
Sellers is 6’3”, 240, and can scoot. He’s basically a linebacker who can sling 60-yard bombs.
Last five games of 2024? He completed 72%, averaged 10 yards a throw, and tossed 11 TDs.
He’s not just dangerous, he’s evolving. And that should scare the hell out of everyone in the SEC East.

4. Arch Manning — Texas

The crown prince of the SEC is here.
Arch has the name, sure. But he’s also 6’4″, 220, fast, and fearless. Sark’s finally building the offense around him
 not plugging him in.
Texas fans want glory. Manning’s got the weapons to deliver it. Let’s see if he’s got the dog to match the hype.

5. John Mateer — Oklahoma

Portal king. Now it’s time to prove it.
Mateer was the QB everyone wanted in the portal. At Washington State, he threw for 29 TDs, ran for 15 more, and led the team in rushing.
Now he’s in Norman with OC Ben Arbuckle, trying to fix an O-line that couldn’t block a shadow last year.
If they give him time, he’s a Top 3 QB in this league.

6. Austin Simmons — Ole Miss

One drive vs. Georgia flipped his whole career.
Simmons came in for a banged-up Dart and lit up the Dawgs.
He’s 6’4″, 215, throws from the left side, and has the locker room already behind him. Kiffin isn’t afraid to move on quick
so when he stuck with Simmons, that told you everything.
Could be the wildcard of the year.

7. Diego Pavia — Vanderbilt

If he played at Alabama, they’d be No. 1.
This dude wins. Doesn’t matter where. Doesn’t matter how. Pavia just elevates everyone around him.
He stuck with Vandy, even with schools calling this offseason. Loyalty’s rare. Leadership is rarer.
He’ll never get the media love. But he’s got the game.

8. Gunner Stockton — Georgia

They let Carson Beck walk for him. That’s all you need to know.
Georgia flirted with a portal QB, sure. But Stockton made his statement in the Sugar Bowl.
He’s battle-tested against elite defenses and now inherits a WR room loaded with transfers like Noah Thomas and Zachariah Branch.
If he doesn’t succeed, it ain’t because of weapons.

9. Ty Simpson — Alabama

Still waiting to prove he’s the guy.
Couldn’t beat out Milroe last year, but Bama also didn’t chase a transfer. That says something.
DeBoer believes. Ryan Grubb is back calling plays. And Simpson’s got one of the best WR groups in the country.
This is his shot. No more waiting. No more excuses.

10. Marcel Reed — Texas A&M

The QB they didn’t realize they needed — until it was almost too late.
Reed wasn’t the original plan. But when chaos hit late last year, he came in and sparked something.
Now Elko and Collin Klein have had a full offseason to build the offense around him.
He’s a legit runner. Still raw as a passer. But the upside? Big.

FINAL THOUGHT

SEC quarterback play last year was messy.
This year? It might be the deepest pool of talent we’ve seen in a decade.
There are five future pros on this list. Maybe more.
And it’s not just the names — it’s the fit, the swag, the systems, and the expectations.

Keep receipts.
Come November, we’ll know who’s really him. đŸ§ŸđŸ”„
