đ§Ÿ SEC QB RANKINGS: FROM CHAOS TO KILLERS
The SEC quarterback room just went from rebuild to reload. After a chaotic 2024 filled with first-year starters and unexpected shakeups, the 2025 season is stacked with high-ceiling talent, returning stars, and a few future pros. From D.J. Lagwayâs freakish upside in Gainesville to Arch Manningâs takeover in Austin, this yearâs group is deeper, sharper, and far more dangerous. This ainât last yearâs QB class. These dudes are ready to light it up. đ§Ÿđ„
Last year? Pure transition szn in the SEC. Fresh faces. Unexpected starts. Plenty of âWait, who?â under center. It was a damn musical chairs game with quarterbacks.
But now? The dustâs settled, the boys are seasoned, and this conference is STACKED with signal-callers who can absolutely spin it. Year 2 leaps incoming. Star transfers locked in. Hell, even the backups could win you a bowl game.
Letâs break down whoâs really holding the remote this fall.
1. D.J. Lagway â Florida
The ceiling? Heisman. The floor? Hurt again.
Lagway might be the most explosive QB in the country if he stays healthy. When he torched LSU and Ole Miss last year, it looked like Florida found their next superstar.
He averaged 10.0 yards per attempt, second only to Dart, while barely getting real starter reps early on.
Now heâs the guy. If the wheels hold up, this kid could change the SEC. But health ainât optional ⊠itâs everything.
2. Garrett Nussmeier â LSU
Burrow. Daniels. Nuss?
If youâve watched LSUâs last two QB âYear 2â jumps, you know whatâs possible. Nussmeierâs got the tools. Scouts are already whispering QB1 in the 2026 draft class.
The WR roomâs solid. The O-line? Young. But if Nuss can take over games, LSUâs playoff path just got real.
3. LaNorris Sellers â South Carolina
Big body. Big arm. Big problem.
Sellers is 6â3â, 240, and can scoot. Heâs basically a linebacker who can sling 60-yard bombs.
Last five games of 2024? He completed 72%, averaged 10 yards a throw, and tossed 11 TDs.
Heâs not just dangerous, heâs evolving. And that should scare the hell out of everyone in the SEC East.
4. Arch Manning â Texas
The crown prince of the SEC is here.
Arch has the name, sure. But heâs also 6â4âł, 220, fast, and fearless. Sarkâs finally building the offense around him ⊠not plugging him in.
Texas fans want glory. Manningâs got the weapons to deliver it. Letâs see if heâs got the dog to match the hype.
5. John Mateer â Oklahoma
Portal king. Now itâs time to prove it.
Mateer was the QB everyone wanted in the portal. At Washington State, he threw for 29 TDs, ran for 15 more, and led the team in rushing.
Now heâs in Norman with OC Ben Arbuckle, trying to fix an O-line that couldnât block a shadow last year.
If they give him time, heâs a Top 3 QB in this league.
6. Austin Simmons â Ole Miss
One drive vs. Georgia flipped his whole career.
Simmons came in for a banged-up Dart and lit up the Dawgs.
Heâs 6â4âł, 215, throws from the left side, and has the locker room already behind him. Kiffin isnât afraid to move on quick ⊠so when he stuck with Simmons, that told you everything.
Could be the wildcard of the year.
7. Diego Pavia â Vanderbilt
If he played at Alabama, theyâd be No. 1.
This dude wins. Doesnât matter where. Doesnât matter how. Pavia just elevates everyone around him.
He stuck with Vandy, even with schools calling this offseason. Loyaltyâs rare. Leadership is rarer.
Heâll never get the media love. But heâs got the game.
8. Gunner Stockton â Georgia
They let Carson Beck walk for him. Thatâs all you need to know.
Georgia flirted with a portal QB, sure. But Stockton made his statement in the Sugar Bowl.
Heâs battle-tested against elite defenses and now inherits a WR room loaded with transfers like Noah Thomas and Zachariah Branch.
If he doesnât succeed, it ainât because of weapons.
9. Ty Simpson â Alabama
Still waiting to prove heâs the guy.
Couldnât beat out Milroe last year, but Bama also didnât chase a transfer. That says something.
DeBoer believes. Ryan Grubb is back calling plays. And Simpsonâs got one of the best WR groups in the country.
This is his shot. No more waiting. No more excuses.
10. Marcel Reed â Texas A&M
The QB they didnât realize they needed â until it was almost too late.
Reed wasnât the original plan. But when chaos hit late last year, he came in and sparked something.
Now Elko and Collin Klein have had a full offseason to build the offense around him.
Heâs a legit runner. Still raw as a passer. But the upside? Big.
FINAL THOUGHT
SEC quarterback play last year was messy.
This year? It might be the deepest pool of talent weâve seen in a decade.
There are five future pros on this list. Maybe more.
And itâs not just the names â itâs the fit, the swag, the systems, and the expectations.
Keep receipts.
Come November, weâll know whoâs really him. đ§Ÿđ„
